Volunteer Roles

Team Specific Roles

Team Manager (1 per team)

Roles and responsibilities of Team Managers include:

  • Overall team leadership and accountability
  • Teach and demonstrate good sportsmanship by respecting the rules, opponents, officials, teammates, and one's self
  • Refrain from the use of insulting, embarrassing, foul, or abusive language. Be a good role model.
  • Have the understanding, patience, and the capacity to work with children in the age group of the division
  • Attendance at mandatory manager/coaching clinics
  • Accountability for actions of the team (parents, players, coaches)
  • Responsible for understanding, complying with, and enforcing all DLL and Little League rules, regulations, and policies
  • Game preparations and related decisions
  • Practice planning and game strategy
  • Discipline and personnel moves
  • Return all issued equipment at the end of the season in good and clean condition

Team Parent (1 per team)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct point of contact between the league, managers, and parents to distribute information
  • Assists manager in coordinating volunteers for other roles (see below)
  • Responsible for fair play tracking, or assigning role (see Fair Play Tracking Sheet on TP Shutterfly)
  • Coordinates team pictures
  • Coordinates team donations for Jamboree baskets and Home Run Derby/Hit-A-Thon

Additional Tasks (Optional, at discretion of Manager & Team Parent)

  • Set up and manage team Shutterfly site
  • Establish snack schedule
  • Plan additional team events (end-of-season party, team participation in St.
  • Patrick's Day Parade, attending a Little League Day, etc)

Assistant Coaches (2 per team)

Roles and responsibilities of coaches on the team include:

  • Skill instruction (pitching, hitting, fielding)
  • Teach and demonstrate good sportsmanship by respecting the rules, opponents, officials, teammates, and one's self
  • Refrain from the use of insulting, embarrassing, foul, or abusive language. Be a good role model.
  • Have the understanding, patience, and the capacity to work with children in the age group of the division
  • Attendance at mandatory coaching clinics
  • Responsible for understanding, complying with, and enforcing all DLL and Little League rules, regulations, and policies
  • Player Skills development training (ground balls, fly balls, batting practice)
  • Base coaching
  • Pre-game dugout set up
  • Pitcher warm-up
  • Field preparation and cleanup
  • Manage the team in the absence of the Team Manager
  • Advise the Team Manager on game and practice strategy
  • Assist the Team Manager where/when needed with team activities

Field Prep Coordinator (2 per team)

Roles and responsibilities of the Field Prep Coordinator include:

  • Supporting Assistant Coaches in preparing fields before each game and/or identifying field prep volunteers
  • Maintaining fields after practices and games
  • Attending field prep clinic (optional)
  • Ensures all field equipment is returned at the end of the game

Scorekeeper (1 or more per team)

From Single A division and up, one scorekeeper from each team is required for each game. For AAA and Majors divisions, GameChanger will be used and will replace paper scorebooks.

Roles and responsibilities of the scorekeeper include:

  • Keeping the official score and/or pitch count at each game, or coordinating a volunteer for this role
  • Attending scorekeeping and/or GameChanger clinic (optional)
  • Scorekeepers are also responsible for the safety of the umpires

League Specific Roles

Jamboree Basket Coordinator

The Jamboree is DLL’s biggest fundraiser each season and we need everyone’s help to ensure it's a success! If you’d like to coordinate a basket, or someone on your team is interested in the role, please let us know ASAP. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates with two other teams to create a raffle basket for Jamboree
  • Submits preferred basket theme to [email protected] for approval (to avoid duplicates)
  • Collects items or donations from each team or businesses and assembles basket
  • Baskets must include list of items, value of basket, and team names (in view on basket)
  • Baskets are due to Team Parent Coordinators this season no later than TBD

A SignUp Genius will be sent to all league members before each special event to get volunteers to help with setup, check-in, cleanup, etc.
